Goddess Nyx
Print of my oil painting, conceived on a drunken friday night.
NYX was the goddess of the night, one of the primordial gods (protogenoi) who emerged as the dawn of creation. Feared by Zeus himself (love that). She was a child of Khaos (Chaos, Air), and coupling with Erebos (Darkness) she produced Aither (Aether, Light) and Hemera (Day). Nyx resides in Tartarus, the deepest part of the underworld, with her daughter Hemera. The two never meet; however, Hemera leaves Tartarus just as Nyx enters it and returns when Nyx leaves. It's like the ultimate game of hide-and-seek, isn't it? The best part is that Nyx wasn't even born on Earth! Nope, her birthplace was in Gaia. In Hesiod's Theogony, Chaos was the first being, and then came Earth, Darkness, and Love (Eros). From Darkness and Night came Day and Light. It's like a divine soap opera!
